Delano, Kern County
On September 8, 1965, Filipino farm workers led by Larry Itliong walked out of the vineyards around Delano, and Cesar Chavez and his union soon joined them. The strike and boycott lasted five years and gave rise to the United Farm Workers. The Forty Acres, the union compound on the west side of town, is now a National Historic Landmark.
